Installing FFADO from source

Getting your Firewire hardware to run with a FFADO version from source involves several steps:

  1. Check that you have all the dependencies in place.
  2. Get the FFADO source code.
  3. Compile and install FFADO.
  4. Update your JACK installation.
  5. Check your kernel modules and device permissions.
  6. Either
    1. Start the ffado-mixer.
    2. Optionally start the ffado-dbus-server before.
  7. and/or simply use your device(s) with JACK.

Watch out for multiple installations of JACK and/or FFADO in different locations!

Once your system works, you can think about tuning it for low latency.
